1. What we act on
1.1 - DNS Abuse (domains we sponsor)
As an ICANN-accredited registrar we act on DNS Abuse: malware, botnets, phishing, pharming, and spam when it's used to deliver any of those. When we have actionable evidence that a domain we sponsor is being used for DNS Abuse, we promptly take the mitigation steps reasonably necessary to stop or disrupt it, weighing severity and the risk of collateral harm.
We act immediately, on a priority basis, on child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and credible threats to life or critical infrastructure.
1.2 - Hosting and email abuse
For sites and mailboxes we host, we also act on other abuse under our Acceptable Use Policy - for example malware distribution, network attacks, and unsolicited bulk email.
1.3 - Website content complaints
For most website-content issues (for example copyright), use our DMCA page or the hosting provider. At the domain level we can only act on the whole domain, not individual pages.
2. How to report
2.1 - Web form (preferred)
Use the abuse form. You'll get an on-screen confirmation and a reference number by email.
2.2 - Email (secondary, for automated feeds)
Machine-generated reports (ARF/XARF) and registry referrals may be sent to domain-abuse@namecrane.com. Individuals should use the form.
RDDS abuse contact (published in our WHOIS/RDAP record): Email domain-abuse@namecrane.com · Phone +1.8774027263 ext. 428
3. Law enforcement and government authorities
This section is for law enforcement, consumer-protection, quasi-governmental, and similar authorities - not the general public.
Dedicated contact, monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (RAA §3.18.3):
- Email: le@namecrane.com
- Phone: +1.8774027263 ext. 2073
Well-founded reports of illegal activity submitted here are reviewed within 24 hours by a person empowered to act. We won't take action that would violate applicable law.
4. What to include
Domain or URL (you may defang it), the type of abuse, evidence (headers, logs, screenshots, timestamps with time zone), and how to reach you.
5. What we do with your report
- We confirm receipt and issue a reference number.
- We investigate proportionately, reviewing the information reasonably available to us (name servers, account activity, the reported URL or page).
- Where we have actionable evidence, we take appropriate action - contacting the customer, suspending a service, placing the domain on hold, or referring the matter.
- CSAM and imminent-harm reports are escalated on a priority basis.
- We keep records of abuse reports and our handling of them for at least two (2) years (RAA §3.18.4), available to ICANN on reasonable notice.
